ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PERMANENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON ELECTRICITY MATTERS

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, through Ministerial Agreement No. MEM-MEM-2024-0038-AM, announced the creation of the Permanent Advisory Committee on Electric Energy (hereinafter “Committee”).

 

The main features of this Committee are as follows:

 

  • The Committee will function as an independent, technical-legal, and specialized body under the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Its primary purpose is to strengthen governance in the electricity sector and promote private investment in this area.

 

  • It will comprise representatives from both the private and public sectors. Private sector participants will include the President of the Energy Chamber of Ecuador, the President of the National Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Ecuador, the President of the Ecuadorian Business Committee, and the President of the Federation of Chambers of Tourism. Public sector participants will include the Minister of Energy and Mines, the Minister of Economy and Finance, the General Manager of Petroecuador, among others.

 

  • The Committee´s responsibilities will encompass analyzing the current state of the electricity sector, issuing recommendations for its improvement, and providing support to the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

     

  • Meetings will take place monthly and will be hosted in various cities across the country.

 

The creation of this Committee represents a significant step forward in strengthening the electricity sector and fostering private investment.
