By Executive Decree No. 507, issued on September 22, 2026, the President of the Republic ordered the nationwide suspension of the working day on Friday, November 20, 2026, applicable to both the public and private sectors.
The measure seeks to encourage domestic travel and public participation in activities related to the Loja International Festival of Living Arts (FIAVL).
The suspension is mandatory for public and private sector employers, and the hours shall not be subject to make-up work. Therefore, if employees work on this holiday, the hours worked must be paid with a 100% surcharge on the hours worked, as provided under Ecuador’s Labor Code.
